Ways to Make Music a Safer Option When Training

In a previous post we discussed how music may hinder your performace when sports training. We want to clarify that by no means are we labeling music of any type as bad for you, in the end, it is all a matter of personal choice. However, endurance exercise may be more beneficial mentally if you complete it without music as it is also training the mind to become stronger and endure better. That is why today we want to share a few tips that can make music a better and safer option.

2 Things to Keep in Mind When Listening to Music While Working Out

  • Protect Your Ears. If you do decide to listen to music during your workouts, try to not use earphones but rather rely on the music played at the gym or place the music on speaker. During exercise, the internal ear becomes much more sensitive to sounds and earphones with loud music can be much more harmful to your auditory canal.
  • Safety Measures. When running outdoors or in other areas where it might not be possible to have a speaker play the music, try to keep the volume on your earphones low enough so that you can also hear your surroundings. This is not only better for your ears but also for your safety as you can be more alert to any suspicious movements or unwanted attention, especially if you are running at very early or late hours when there is not a lot of people around.
