As an athlete, you’re likely familiar with the foods you should be consuming in order to get the results you’re looking for. If you’re still new to this and aren’t quite sure, then take a look at some of our suggestions for pre and post workout snacks. Whether you want to bulk up, slim down, or maintain a weight you’ve already hit, there are certain foods that are just no good for an athlete's body. If you want to know more about the food you should be avoiding, then you’ve come to the right place. Athletic Republic Toledo would like to share a list of the 4 foods you should be avoiding. ;

Though you may love the way it tastes, it’s best that you avoid anything with high-fructose corn syrup as a major ingredient. This includes, but is not limited to, candy, artificially sweetened yogurt and cereal. Try eating real fruit and natural yogurt instead. Not only will high-fructose corn syrup cause problems in the weight department, it’s also detrimental before a workout, as it can pump you up, but only briefly. You’ll find yourself tired mid-workout, due to a nasty sugar crash. ;

Especially just prior to a workout, you want to avoid fried and dairy heavy foods. These take a lot of time and energy to breakdown and you don’t want your body to be doing all that extra work as you’re trying to use that energy to workout the absolute best. So, before a run, try eating an apple or other snack with minimal ingredients. ;

Lastly, avoid coffee and other heavily caffeinated drinks. If you are in need of a boost of energy and simple don’t feel you can cut caffeine out of your diet entirely, don’t fret. Try drinking green tea instead. There is still caffeine in green tea. The interesting thing is that it releases more slowly and steadily in your body, providing you with that boost you need while not producing a sugar crash mid-workout. ;

Once you’ve begun cutting down on these foods that shouldn’t be part of your diet, you’re going to feel more energetic and more ready to get things done. If with that, you find yourself also ready to push yourself to new goals and better fitness, remember us at Athletic Republic.
