There are many things that can help athletes to maximize their results and improve in all areas. However, it is crucial that athletes build great habits in order to truly facilitate improvement and overall results. We previously discussed the importance of three basic healthy habits that all athletes should build, but today we want to focus on other, less physical, but equally important habits.

2 Mental Habits You Need to Build if You Want to Succeed

  • Never make excuses. You may have had a rough night, or injured yourself but making excuses is not going to get you anywhere. There are still ways to not let yourself fall behind when dealing with an injury it doesn´t mean you can´t work on staying in shape. This also applies to all other areas of an athlete´s life. There is no excuse for eating unhealthy or not staying hydrated. If it needs to get done, do it. No ifs, and, or buts.
  • Learn from your mistakes. This applies to everyone but it is especially crucial that athletes learn to do this and that they actively work on it. Learning from past failures and mistakes is what will allow you to improve. After every competition evaluate your performance and make a mental note of what things you could have done better. Then remember those things and work on improving so that you don´t make the same mistakes again.
